Much of today was devoted to digging holes and planting the three fruit trees in our side and front yards. The ground was fairly wet due to the rain we'd gotten this week, which helped considerably; the clay-and-rock soil combination in our yard takes quite a bit of work to get up unless it's moist. The children were excited about the labor, though they were mostly involved in the celebration phase of the process.

I love planting new trees, especially fruit trees. How fun to watch for the fruit, although unfortunately it does take a few years. We moved from Boise just a few years after our peach tree started bearing fruit. But we got two full-grown apple trees in our new house--score!
And no, the kids are never really any help, but I think it's good for them to be out there, thinking they are helping.
